How is THCA formed?

THCA (Tetrahydrocannabinolic Acid) is naturally formed in raw hemp flowers and is the precursor of THC. When heated, THCA can be converted to THC through a process called decarboxylation. In its raw form, THCA is not intoxicating and occurs naturally in raw cannabis and industrial hemp.

In cannabinoid research, other lesser-known cannabinoids are also studied, such as THCB, which differ chemically but have a similar natural origin in the hemp plant.

THCA vs THC - what's the difference?

THCA and THC are closely related cannabinoids. The main difference is that THCA is not intoxicating in its raw state. When THCA is exposed to heat, for example by vaping or smoking, a process called decarboxylation takes place, converting THCA into THC.

In the cannabis plant, THCA is naturally produced during the plant's development and acts as a precursor to THC.

THCA Hash is a more concentrated collector format with distinctive aroma and texture.

Is THCA legal in the UK?

Legislation and interpretations around cannabinoids can be complex and change over time. THCA is not the same substance as THC, and in practice products are often assessed based on origin (industrial hemp), analytical results and current regulations.

We always recommend that you consult the latest government information if you are unsure.

Our products are derived from EU certified industrial hemp (Cannabis Sativa L) and are lab-tested to verify cannabinoid content.

Lab tested & documented

Before our products are made available, content is verified by independent laboratories. This helps us to ensure that the products match the stated specification and that documentation is available around the cannabinoid profile and any trace levels of THC.

Industrial hemp from EU-certified seed varieties is used as raw material. To be classified as industrial hemp, the variety must be approved and cultivation must take place in accordance with current rules and documentation requirements.
