How is THCA formed?

THCA (Tetrahydrocannabinolic Acid) is naturally formed in raw hemp flowers and is the precursor of THC. When heated, THCA can be converted to THC through a process called decarboxylation. In its raw form, THCA is not psychoactive and occurs naturally in raw cannabis and industrial hemp.

In cannabinoid research, other lesser-known cannabinoids are also studied, such as THCB, which differ chemically but have a similar natural origin in the hemp plant.

THCA vs THC - What's the difference?

THCA and THC are closely related cannabinoids. The main difference is that THCA is not psychoactive in its raw state. When THCA is exposed to heat, for example by vaping or smoking, a process called decarboxylation takes place, converting THCA into THC.
